How much sugar is in yoghurt? Compare the per-100-g figure

Two yoghurts from the same product line can look similar on the shelf. The “of which sugars” line shows the difference when you compare the same 100 g amount.

Updated 24 September 2026

Sugar content of two yoghurts per 100 g: 11 g and 3.4 g

The quick answer

Valio Hyvä suomalainen Arki vanilla yoghurt lists 11 g of sugars per 100 g. The plain version lists 3.4 g per 100 g. That is about 3.2 times as much in the vanilla version. These are total sugars, not just added sugar.

Example: two Valio Arki yoghurts

Vanilla yoghurt 1 kg11 g
Plain yoghurt 1 kg3.4 g

How to compare them in a shop

  1. Find the nutrition table on each package. Read “carbohydrates, of which sugars”.
  2. Check that both figures are for 100 g. Do not compare one product’s serving figure with another product’s per-100-g figure.
  3. Read the ingredients when relevant and check the actual package. Database values can change.

What does the sugar figure leave out?

“Of which sugars” includes all sugars in the product, including those naturally present in milk. That number alone does not tell you how much sugar was added or which product suits you. Valio states that the vanilla yoghurt also contains added sugar and that the sugars in the plain version come from milk.
