AI agents move from plans to verifiable workflows

Siemens is adding self-verifying agentic workflows for chip and PCB design, while OpenAI has opened Presence for governed voice and chat agents. The common thread is bounded access, testing and a human path to stop or take over the work.

1. Siemens adds physical design checks to AI agents

On 26 July, Siemens announced an expanded NVIDIA partnership for its Fuse EDA AI Agent. The agents can orchestrate semiconductor and PCB design tasks and check decisions against physics-based EDA engines. The capabilities are planned for forthcoming Siemens releases; the company cites its own targets, including more than tenfold acceleration for a particular library-characterisation workflow.

2. OpenAI Presence brings governed agents to enterprise voice and chat work

OpenAI introduced Presence on 22 July. It is a managed product in limited general availability: an agent can use approved systems, take approved actions and hand a case to a person. OpenAI says its English-language support channel now resolves 75% of inbound issues without human assistance, but that is the company's own report and does not guarantee the same result elsewhere.
