AI phones promise action — but apps still set the limits
WAIC 2026 highlighted two related but distinct phone trends. AI agents are trying to complete whole tasks across apps, while a motorized camera adds a new moving part to the handset. In both cases, everyday constraints matter more than a stage demo.

1. AI agents run into app permissions
At least three manufacturers showed so-called agentic phones at WAIC in Shanghai. Nubia's NaviX Ultra, Honor's Robot Phone and StepFun's STEPX Neo promise to complete several steps from one request, such as comparing options, ordering a service or composing a message. Their makers say the systems combine models and services across app boundaries.
2. A moving camera advances from concept toward sale
Honor opened Chinese reservations for the Robot Phone on 18 July and demonstrated its four-degree-of-freedom motorized camera mechanism at WAIC. Honor says the camera can track a subject, stabilize video and act as a physical actuator for an AI agent. These are manufacturer demonstrations; independent durability and image-quality tests are not yet available.
