Know more about what you buy – JVSFood makes food labels easier to explore

When the label is unfamiliar, time is short or your diet needs extra attention, a better choice starts with clearer information. JVSFood brings ingredients, nutrition data, personal food preferences and product comparison into one view.

The main purpose is to make product information understandable

Scan a package barcode or enter it manually. JVSFood brings the available ingredients, nutrition values, allergens, source and a short product description into one view. Language and shopping-list features support this core task; they do not replace it.

Grocery shopping should not require a dictionary and a pile of notes

A new country, an unfamiliar language or a more specific diet can turn a routine purchase into a slow investigation. The front of a package sells an impression; the information you need is often hidden in small-print ingredients. JVSFood reduces that friction: scan the barcode or enter it manually and explore the available product data in one calm, structured view.

What can you do with it?

  • Explore a product: see available ingredients, nutrition values, the data source and a short description.
  • Apply your preferences: consider vegan choices, avoiding milk, nuts, peanuts, soy, eggs or sesame, gluten-related strictness, and mild or spicy preferences.
  • Find alternatives: look for products in the same category in Finland, Sweden or more broadly, with an explanation of the comparison.
  • Compare two products: view ingredients, allergen information and nutrition side by side.
  • Add it to your shopping list: mark products as found and follow your shopping progress.
  • Return to useful products: recent searches and favourites stay on your own device.
  • Add it to your home screen: JVSFood works as an installable PWA on phones and tablets.

A clearer decision, without a black box

JVSFood does not hide the reasoning behind a mysterious “good” or “bad” verdict. It shows the available evidence, explains comparisons and marks missing information. When Nutri-Score is available, the service presents an easy-to-read rating derived from it—not a new official Nutri-Score scale and not personal medical advice.

Especially useful when the package does not speak your language

The interface is available in Finnish, Swedish, English and Russian. Recognised ingredient names can be presented in your chosen language, while brands and missing facts are not invented. This makes the service practical for international residents, families and anyone who wants a little more confidence when comparing everyday food.

Privacy belongs in an everyday tool

Your food profile is evaluated in the browser. Gluten, allergen and taste preferences are not sent to the server, and camera video is processed on the device. You can delete the profile completely and no account is required. Product search sends the barcode and selected search country and requires an internet connection.

A beta that improves through real use

JVSFood is a beta service. Some products are missing, and source data can be incomplete or outdated. If a product cannot be found, you can suggest it and voluntarily send package photos for review. Feedback helps improve search, languages and product coverage.

An important safety boundary

JVSFood is not a medical service and cannot guarantee that a product is suitable for an allergy or intolerance. A missing allergen field in a database does not prove that the allergen is absent. Always check the current package and, when needed, confirm with the manufacturer—especially when a wrong choice could affect health.

Try it on your next grocery trip

Open the service, choose your language, set your preferences if useful and scan one product. In moments you can see whether enough data is available, which ingredients were recognised and whether comparable alternatives exist. Then tell us what helped and what should improve next.
