Phone touchscreen not responding
First check whether taps fail only in one app, in one area of the display or everywhere. A clean dry screen, disconnected accessories and a restart solve common temporary issues; a persistent dead zone or ghost touches needs a service assessment.

Quick checklist
- Lock and unlock the screen, then see whether the issue also appears on the Home Screen.
- Dry and wipe the display with a soft lint-free cloth; dry your hands too.
- Disconnect the charger and any USB-C or Lightning accessories.
- Remove the case and test without the screen protector only if this can be done safely; a removed protector may not be reusable.
- Restart the phone and install official system and app updates.
Symptoms and likely direction
A problem in one app usually points to that app. The same unresponsive strip in the keyboard, Home Screen and Settings points more strongly to the display or touch layer. If it happens only while charging, disconnect the charger and test with another approved cable and power source.
What not to do
- Do not press hard on the screen, heat the phone or bend the frame.
- Do not install unknown calibration or cleaner apps.
- Do not start with a factory reset; it cannot repair a cracked or damaged touch layer.
When to stop
Turn the phone off and stop testing if the display is lifting, the battery may be swollen, the phone becomes hot, has been wet, or a cracked screen produces uncontrolled touches. Back up data only if the device is safe to operate.
