Phone flashlight is not working

Test the flashlight from Quick Settings or Control Centre, remove anything covering the LED and restart the phone.

Quick checklist

  1. Turn on the flashlight from Quick Settings or Control Centre, not only from Camera.
  2. Remove a case, film or magnetic accessory and test again.
  3. Close Camera and other apps that use the flash.
  4. Restart the phone and install system updates.
  5. If the light works intermittently, try another flash setting in Camera.
  6. Stop if the phone is hot or wet.

The flashlight may be blocked by Camera, an accessory, software or a damaged LED flash.

Android

  1. Try the Quick Settings flashlight and close Camera before testing.
  2. Remove a case or accessory that could cover the LED flash.
  3. Restart and update the phone.

iPhone

  1. Apple recommends testing Torch in Control Centre and removing accessories that block the flash.
  2. If the flash works only sometimes, choose another Camera flash setting.
  3. If the LED still fails after a restart, service may be needed.

What not to do

  • Do not cover the LED with a finger or heat-trapping tape.
  • Do not install an app claiming to repair the flash.
  • Do not open the phone yourself.
  • Do not use a wet or overheating device.
