Your phone camera is blurry or will not focus
Start with the lens, protector, case, distance and light. If every app stays blurry after cleaning and a restart, the cause may be hardware rather than a setting.

Short answer: run these six checks
- Wipe the front and rear lens with a clean microfiber cloth.
- Remove a lens protector or case for a test.
- Try a farther subject in good light and tap the subject to focus.
- Switch between 0.5x/1x/tele cameras; only one lens may be affected.
- Close Camera, restart the phone and update the camera app and system.
- If the image shakes, the camera grinds or it never focuses in any app, stop home experiments.
The symptom narrows the cause
Blur can come from dirt, a subject that is too close, a lens, low light or a focus mechanism fault.

Android
- Clean the lens and reopen Camera.
- Settings → Apps → Camera → Storage: clear cache only if the app misbehaves; do not clear data without a reason.
- Compare the built-in camera with another camera app, without assuming the other app fixes hardware.
- Pixel guidance lists cleaning the camera lens as the first check for blurry or hazy photos.
iPhone
- Clean front and rear lenses with a microfiber cloth and remove a film or case for the test.
- Test in normal light and at different distances.
- For blurry photos, artifacts or a black preview, Apple recommends checking lenses and software.
- Do not use a sharp object to clean the lens or camera openings.
What not to do
- Do not rub the lens with paper or abrasive cleaner.
- Do not shake the phone if the focus mechanism grinds.
- Do not install a random camera app as a ‘fix’ before basic comparisons.
- Do not open the phone or heat the camera at home.
