Phone battery drains overnight

Some overnight use is normal, but a sudden large drop is worth separating into app activity, signal, an update or battery health before a factory reset.

Quick checklist

  1. Record the battery percentage before sleep and in the morning.
  2. Open Settings > Battery and check the largest user.
  3. Compare one night on stable Wi-Fi with another brief test without mobile data.
  4. Restart the phone and install pending updates.
  5. If it becomes hot or swells, stop and seek service advice.

The symptom narrows the cause

Overnight drain alone does not prove a faulty battery. Clues include one app, weak signal, a recent update or drain that remains in a careful comparison.

What not to do

  • Do not install random battery-fixer apps.
  • Do not disable system services or important apps at random.
  • Do not open the phone yourself if the battery is damaged.
