Phone alarm appears but makes no sound? Check it before tomorrow morning
Check the alarm’s own tone and volume, not just music volume. Run a supervised test. Use an independent backup for an important wake-up until the problem is understood.

Safe checking order
- Open the exact alarm you use. Check time, repeat days and that it is enabled. Note whether it appeared silently or never appeared. Sleep wake-up schedules and third-party alarm apps may have different settings.
- For a regular iPhone Clock alarm, select an audible Sound rather than None. Check Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Ringtone and Alerts. Apple says Silent mode and Do Not Disturb do not silence this alarm.
- In Google Clock on Android, check the alarm tone and alarm volume. If the app reports that Do Not Disturb blocked it, allow alarms in that mode’s settings. Menus and the manufacturer’s own Clock app can differ.
- JVS Tuki’s test: select a built-in device tone and set one test a few minutes ahead, at least five minutes away from other alarms. Lock the screen with your usual night settings. Stay awake and listen; do not use an important morning alarm as the test.
- Record whether it sounded and appeared. If a built-in tone works but your previous music choice does not, check the music service separately. Remove only the test alarm. One successful test does not guarantee the next night.
Symptoms and possible causes
A visible but silent alarm points first to tone and volume checks. An alarm that never appears calls for checking time, repeats and app messages. Hearing music does not prove alarm settings are correct. This narrows the investigation rather than proving a fault.
What not to do
- Do not assume Android and iPhone behave alike in silent mode.
- Do not begin by deleting all alarms, clearing app data or factory-resetting the phone.
- Do not change many settings together or rely only on vibration for an important wake-up.
When to stop
If silence continues, use an independent backup. Note the phone model, system and Clock versions, tone and test result, then seek help. If other audio is silent too, a separate speaker check is needed. Do not open the phone yourself.
