Laptop screen is too dark
Check brightness, power saving, external-display mode and automatic adjustment first. If the slider moves but the picture does not change, the display driver or the manufacturer's control may be involved.

Quick checklist
- Raise brightness with the keyboard key and Windows Settings > System > Display.
- Check whether Battery saver, Night light or HDR is changing the picture.
- Disconnect an external monitor and make sure you are adjusting the built-in display.
- Restart and check Windows Update and the laptop maker's updates.
- If the slider is missing or has no effect, inspect the display adapter before replacing drivers.
The symptom narrows the cause
If the screen is dark only on battery, power saving or automatic adjustment is likely. If the slider is missing or has no effect, check the display mode and driver first.
| Brightness changes only with the keyboard | The setting works, but Windows and the manufacturer's control may be out of sync. |

| The slider moves but the picture does not | Check the correct display, HDR and the display driver. |
| The screen darkens only on battery | Check Battery saver and automatic brightness. |
| It started after an update | Restart and use the maker's updates before removing a driver. |
What not to do
- Do not install a random graphics package or use a cleanup tool without a recovery path.
- Do not change several colour or HDR settings at once without recording the originals.
- Do not conclude that the panel is broken before comparing BIOS or an external display.
