Laptop microphone does not work
Check mute, the headset button, the selected input and permissions first. If the microphone works in the system test but not in a meeting, the app is probably using the wrong input.

Quick checklist
- Turn off mute in the meeting, keyboard or headset.
- Test the mic in Windows Sound settings or macOS Sound > Input.
- Check Windows Privacy & security > Microphone or macOS Privacy & Security > Microphone.
- Select the correct input in the meeting app and close other audio apps.
- Restart and install pending operating-system and audio-driver updates.
The symptom narrows the cause
If the system test hears nothing, check mute, permission and input device. If it works there but not in Teams, Zoom or a browser, focus on the app's microphone choice.
