Laptop keyboard key does not work
First find out whether one key or the whole keyboard is affected. A restart and an external keyboard help separate a setting, software and physical fault.

Quick checklist
- Restart the laptop and test the same key in a plain text field.
- Check that Fn, Num Lock and the keyboard layout are not changing the result.
- Connect a USB keyboard: if it works, suspect the built-in keyboard.
- With the laptop off, clean the surface gently; do not force keycaps off.
- If liquid was spilled or several neighbouring keys fail, stop testing.
The symptom narrows the cause
One stiff key can be dirt or a mechanical fault. Several neighbouring dead keys can indicate the keyboard matrix or ribbon cable; an external keyboard is a safe temporary workaround.
