Jolla Phone shows why a European alternative still matters.

The new Jolla Phone is not only a device story. It is also about privacy, choice and whether Finland and Europe can still build technology on their own terms.

What happened?

Jolla has brought back the Jolla Phone name with a new Sailfish OS device. Jolla's shop describes the October 2026 batch as a European Do It Together Linux phone with Sailfish OS 5, Android app support through Jolla AppSupport, a user-replaceable battery, user-replaceable back covers and a physical Privacy Switch.

Why does it matter in Finland?

In Finland, Jolla is more than a nostalgic brand name. It is connected to the idea that mobile technology does not have to be shaped only by two dominant ecosystems. The phone will not be right for everyone, but its existence adds choice and makes the privacy conversation practical.

What should be checked before buying?

The important question is not only performance. A normal user should check banking apps, strong authentication, work profiles, maps, camera needs, car connectivity and other critical daily apps. Android app support helps, but it does not automatically mean the same experience as a Google-services Android phone.

Who might it fit?

It may interest users who value privacy, a Linux-based system, a replaceable battery, physical controls and European technology. If the most important need is frictionless app compatibility, a conventional Android phone or iPhone may still be the safer practical choice.
