Virre changes on 27 August – save purchased documents before the transition

The Finnish Patent and Registration Office announced on 22 July that the Virre Information Service will be revamped on 27 August 2026. Basic company details, free Trade Register extracts and paid financial statements will remain available. The practical preparation concerns previously purchased documents and the route used to obtain beneficial-owner details.

What is changing?

The new Virre will provide company, foundation and enterprise-mortgage information through one search. Registration or login will no longer be required for free information. Paid items can be bought with online banking credentials or a credit card, and the documents and receipt will also be delivered by email.

Who should pay attention?

The change matters most to a company, accountant or adviser that has bought financial statements, articles of association or other documents in Virre and relies on the service's purchase history. It also affects users who check beneficial owners for customer due diligence or to verify their own company's registered details.

1. Save purchased items in your own archive

PRH says items previously bought by registered users and contract clients will not transfer to the new Virre. Download the PDF and other documents you need now, name them with the Business ID and document date, and store them in a controlled company folder. Check the backup and access rights as well.

2. Change the route for beneficial-owner checks

After the revamp, beneficial-owner details will come from PRH's separate Beneficial Owner Information Service, currently available in Finnish and Swedish. A person responsible for the company or an authorised representative can download the company's own extract free of charge. Not every user can obtain these details without a purpose permitted under anti-money-laundering rules.

3. Update the internal instruction, not only the bookmark

Virre will remain at www.virre.fi, so an unchanged link may hide the process change. If your business checks suppliers, customers or the status of Trade Register notifications, record who obtains the information, from which service, under which authority and where the extract is stored.

A 15-minute preparation

Open Virre, check whether the account contains purchased documents, save the necessary files in your own archive and set 27 August as the date to review the process instruction. If your work requires beneficial-owner details, test the separate service and authorisations before the change.
